UTSLÄPP AT CLARION HOTEL STOCKHOLM

The Swedish photographer and artist Håkan Sjöström makes images of the debris he finds along the highways. Parts of the series "Utsläpp" will be displayed at the Clarion Hotel Stockholm from the 13th of January to the 13th of February.

- I walk along the highways and pick things that people thrown out the window, things detached from cars and so on. The idea is to find the graphic shapes and the beauty in things that are generally regarded as waste and garbage. Finding a value in things that have nothing, says Håkan Sjöström.

The series of images "Utsläpp" currently consists of about 35 pictures but is constantly growing. For this exhibition Håkan has chosen images with debris from Stockholm but also from the highways around Detroit, where Håkan was and worked in the spring.

- As long as there is garbage along the highways, I will keep going, so there is still to do, says Håkan.

The image series "Utsläpp" was something that was appreciated by the jury of the International Exhibition for Digital and Photographic Art at the Museo d'Arte Chianciano Terme in Italy in September 2010. In competition with photographers from 35 countries and 1300 images he was awarded third prize in the category "Digital Art".
