We care

“We Care” is Nordic Choice Hotels’ commitment to the wellbeing of our guests and employees, as well our social commitment to the wellbeing of those in need of a helping hand. It is a collective concept defined by the company’s dedication to a range of ongoing activities that reflect the genuine desire to take responsibility and make a difference.

For our guests, all Nordic Choice hotels within Scandinavia are able to provide information and guidance to the healthy food and beverage alternatives that are available. These choices are also clearly labelled on menus and on the breakfast and lunch buffets. The concept has been developed in collaboration with leading experts in the field, including Christine Helle, a nutritional physiologist at the Toppidrettsenteret Sports Academy in Oslo.

Environment policy

Nordic Choice Hotels commits to:
  • Adhering to and wherever possible to lead with regard to all environmental requirements and regulations as determined by law.
  • Constantly carry out preventative measures so as to minimize the environmental damage caused by the company activities.
  • Reduce the use of non-renewable materials, chemical, water and energy.
  • Work towards minimizing the amount of waste and transport within the company.
Nordic Choice accepts responsibility for the global climate and therefore will focus greatly on the company’s use of energy. Nordic Choice will achieve this through creating a positive work attitude, training, use of the best available and appropriate technology and planning of the company activities.

A regard for the environment and resources must be important in the whole decision making process. Environmental priorities will give Nordic Choice a long-term competitive advantage and be a decision making factor for public authorities, companies and private people when choosing their hotel suppliers

Operation Penguin

Operation Penguin is the name of the project leading to the ISO 14001 accreditation of all Nordic Choice hotels before the end of 2009. ”Penguin” is our eco-management system, which is to be implemented throughout all our hotels in the Nordic countries. The eco-management system is established according to the internationally recognised ISO 14001 standard and will be accredited through the ’Det Norske Veritas’ (DNV).

The transport and travel sector accounts for 20% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. Nordic Choice Hotels, the largest hotel chain in Scandinavia, is part of this problem. So we have to be part of the solution too. Nordic Choice accepts the responsibility and we set a high standard with regard to our environmental performance. For many years we have focussed on how to reduce the use of energy, water and chemicals. We wish to intensify our environmental effort even more with the ISO-accreditation. There are many very good environmental standards, which will document the environmental protective work carried out by a company. Nordic Choice has selected the internationally recognised ISO 14001 eco-management systems; because it fits with those visions and activities we are undertaking. One important keyword for the ISO-standard is constant improvement and our eco-management system has been established with dynamic and ambitious environmental protection work in mind. In November 2007 Nordic Choice and Det Norske Veritas signed an agreement for DNV to be the accreditation body. More information
